Ultrafast and unstoppable: Read Cricket Club powers into round 4 of the Voneus Village Cup
Read CC advances to Round 4 of the Voneus Village Cup, boosted by gigabit broadband, vibrant community spirit, and standout performances on and off the field.
30th May 2025Our 2025 focus club for the Voneus Village Cup, Read Cricket Club (Read CC), continues their impressive campaign, advancing to Round 4 and moving one step closer to the hallowed turf of Lord’s.
Nestled in the heart of the community, Read CC isn’t just making headlines for their on-field performances. Known for hosting the “biggest beer garden” in the area, the club might also now hold the title for the fastest club, having recently been connected to Voneus full fibre broadband.
While we can’t promise ultrafast speeds will add pace to their spinners, the club now offers free, high-speed internet access to members and visitors alike—boosting the match-day experience and enhancing their community led social events.
Last weekend, Read CC celebrated one of its marquee community gatherings, their annual Beer and Cider Festival, partnering with local breweries to showcase the region’s finest craft drinks. Voneus proudly sponsored a local Flintshire ale, appropriately named “Don’t Worry Be Hoppy.”
Sam Porter, Read CC’s Club Secretary said, “We’d like to say thanks to Voneus for their support and for bringing ultrafast broadband to the club.
“We’re a very social club that’s active on social media, so it’s great we can offer our supporters free connectivity to share their stories and photos with the local community.”
As the tournament heats up, so too does the atmosphere at Read CC, now buzzing with community spirit, strong local pints, and gigabit speeds. All eyes are on the next match, as the club takes one more stride towards glory at Lord’s.
Read CC skipper Will Wrathall commented on the third round game, saying, 'It was a good game against Walton Le Dale. We never really got it right with the ball and they made good use of the short boundary. If one of their batters had converted a start it could have been a different game.
“They bowled very well first up. Their opening bowlers challenging both edges consistently. But we got a partnership for the 5th wicket between Andy Laycock and Joey Halstead that proved decisive. Joey in particular was outstanding. As soon as he got to 50 it was brutal hitting. We look forward to welcoming old friends from Cleator in the next round in what's sure to be an exciting match.”
Read CC will play Cleator on the 8th June.
