Soapbox Derby Sizzles with Speed, Sunshine and Community Spirit!
The Fishguard Soapbox Derby delivered thrills, sunshine, and community spirit — a high-speed summer celebration with racing, laughs, and local connection.
14th July 2025What a day! The Fishguard Soapbox Derby was an unforgettable mix of adrenaline, heat, and heartfelt community connection and we were thrilled to be part of it.
A scorcher of a day
With temperatures soaring to a sizzling 31°C, it was one of the hottest days of the year, but that didn’t stop the crowds from showing up in force to cheer on their favourite racers. Armed with water bottles, sun hats, and plenty of good vibes, the community gathered to support what turned out to be a brilliantly entertaining day.
The race track
Races kicked off at 12:30pm, with each team starting the challenge by pushing their handmade soapbox all the way to the top of Penbanc Hill. As they climbed, they passed many of our wonderful Voneus customers lining the route. After a good push-off, it was time to hang on tight as the racers picked up speed, navigated a sharp chicane, and launched over two jumps, before either crashing in spectacular style or gliding to a heroic finish into the safety barriers below.
The results
A total of 11 teams took on the challenge, but there could only be one winner, and that honour went to the Llandeilo Round Table and their brilliant green soapbox, seen in action being pushed up the hill in one of our favourite shots from the day. They raced with style, speed, and just the right amount of chaos!
Community connection
The blazing sun did send some of the crowd sprinting for shade after the races, but not before stopping by our stand to chat with the Voneus team. We had a fantastic time speaking with local residents, sharing more about our broadband services, and gathering great feedback.
