Helping rural communities stay connected - even the feathered ones

At Voneus Broadband, connecting communities means more than bringing broadband to homes and businesses. It also means supporting the places, people and projects that make rural life so special.

That can take many forms, from backing local events and community spaces to helping projects that bring people closer to nature.

One recent example took the team to Shropshire, where a rather special live stream needed a little help getting online.

Supporting Curlew Country in Shropshire

Curlew Country is doing vital work to help protect one of the UK’s most recognisable and much-loved birds: the curlew.

These beautiful birds are known for their long, curved bills and haunting calls, but they are also under serious pressure. Projects like Curlew Country help raise awareness, support conservation work and give more people the chance to understand why these birds matter.

To help more people experience the project, Voneus provided a free connection for the Curlew Cam - a live stream showing nesting curlews in Shropshire.

A tricky connection in a very rural spot

Connecting a live camera in the countryside is not quite the same as installing broadband in a house.

There are fields, distance, access challenges and plenty of hurdles to work through. But that is where local knowledge, teamwork and a bit of determination come in.

The team worked together to find a way to support the project and help connect the Curlew Cam. It was a decent rural broadband challenge, just with more feathers than usual.
