Pentyrch Cricket Club Crowned 2025 Community Legends

Pentyrch Cricket Club has been named the 2025 Voneus Village Cup Community Legends winner, celebrating their role as a vibrant hub of sport and community spirit.

10th July 2025

We’re delighted to announce that Pentyrch Cricket Club has been named the 2025 Voneus Village Cup Community Legends winner!

The judges were Ceri John, director - deployment at Voneus, former England cricketer and Voneus Village Cup ambassador Lydia Greenway, and The Cricketer’s editor Huw Turbervill.

This remarkable village club is a shining example of how sport can bring a community together. From their buzzing Friday All Stars and Dynamos sessions and popular summer music festival, to a growing women’s squad and a thriving junior programme, Pentyrch CC is more than a cricket club, it’s a local hub for joy, inclusion and connection.

Their 1st XI is powered by homegrown talent, and their Junior Committee, led by a young female member proves they’re thinking ahead. Off the pitch, the club’s traditional pavilion, community garden, and famous Shepherd’s Hut serving tea and cake on match days have made it a true social space.

Lucy O'Leary, events and pavilion manager at the club, said: "We at Pentyrch Cricket Club are truly honoured to be this year's recipients of the Voneus Village Cup Community Legends award. It means so much to us, not just because it recognises the sport we love, but because it celebrates the heart of our club - our community.

"To us, cricket is more than just a game. It’s a way of bringing people together, building communities and creating lasting friendships.

"This award belongs to every player, volunteer, coach, family member and supporter who has contributed to making our club more than just a place to play cricket. A space where people connect, grow, and belong.

"Thank you once again for this recognition. We are truly thrilled."

Working closely with Pentyrch Community Council and other local sports clubs, Pentyrch CC helps keep the village’s sporting spirit alive all year round. With strong female representation across leadership and safeguarding roles, and an award-winning Events & Pavilion Manager, they’re setting an incredible standard for grassroots sport.

Ceri John said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to congratulate Pentyrch Cricket Club on being named this year’s Voneus Village Cup Community Legends.

"Their incredible dedication to bringing people together from thriving youth teams and a growing women’s squad to community festivals and family events shows just how powerful a local club can be at the heart of village life.

"A huge thank you also goes to every club that entered. Reading through the nominations truly brought home how vital these clubs are to their communities. They do so much more than play sport; they create belonging, lift people up, and make communities stronger

"That’s exactly why we’ve been so passionate about supporting the Voneus Village Cup to celebrate and shine a light on the grassroots legends making a real difference every single day."

Lydia Greenway added: "Congratulations to Pentyrch, who are very worthy winners of this year's Voneus Village Cup Community Legends award.

"Boasting a social membership of around 150 villagers, the club has also shown a huge commitment to ensuring its senior teams on the pitch are largely comprised of homegrown talent that has come through its impressive junior section.

"It was really tough to judge this year's contest with some excellent entries from, which shows that the village cricket club really does remain the heartbeat of so many communities across the country."

We’re so proud to support clubs like this through the Voneus Village Cup  and Pentyrch Cricket Club truly embodies everything it stands for.
